Save money on your boiler service and help the environment

When you get your boiler serviced every year with us, did you know you’re actually helping the environment too?

In 2017 Sadiq Khan, issued his first “very high” pollution alert for London. Levels of toxic fumes measured twice the legal hourly limit, topping Beijing. This left the Mayor advising Londoners to limit their time outside and a warning to contact their doctor if they felt unwell.

In March 2019 our East London borough, Tower Hamlets, issued a climate emergency as it recorded the highest levels of pollution across the city.

At BoilerBooker we don’t just care about saving you money on your annual boiler service (although that’s our core mission), we also want do our bit for the environment and our local community too.

When you book with us, here’s how you’re helping too…

1. We group annual boiler services by location

When you sign up to an annual boiler service we group your booking with others in your local area who also need a boiler service or repairs. Say you sign up in Hackney, East London, we’ll book you on the same day as other people from Hackney . This means the heating engineer doesn’t need to make multiple trips – less trips means less emissions. Plus it makes it cheaper for you too. Win win.

2. More efficient boiler – less energy needed

By getting your boiler serviced every year means your heating engineer will make sure it’s running at its optimum. If your boiler is healthy and running smoothly it’s going to be more efficient – using less energy. Not only is this better for the environment, it’s also better for your pocket.

3. Spreading the recycling message in East London

Not wanting to stop there we’re always looking for more ways we can help our community care for the environment. We used the reverse of our flyer to remind people that they should be recycling more and not to put the wrong items in the wrong bin. Thanks to Moo.com these were printed on recycled paper and we distributed them across the borough.

Tower Hamlets spends £6m a year in litter picking, there has to be ways where they can save money here too. Plastic Patrol, have done a great job in making sure litter stays out of nature. You can download the app and help with keeping the world cleaner.

There are also several advanced litter picking robots and technologies available in the UK that can significantly improve efficiency and help local councils like Tower Hamlets reduce litter collection costs.

Top Litter Picking Robots in the UK

  • Recycleye Robotics: This UK-based start-up produces AI-powered waste-sorting robots that sort and pick litter materials at high rates, using machine vision and robotics. Each robot can pick up to 33,000 items in a 10-hour shift and works with impressive accuracy 24/7. Bryson Recycling, for instance, has successfully integrated these robots to improve recycling accuracy and reduce manual labour costs.

  • BeachBot: Specially designed for beach litter, BeachBot uses AI to identify and remove small litter items, such as cigarette butts, bottles and plastics. Its image recognition enables targeting of problematic litter on open spaces and beaches, and could be adapted for parks and large public spaces in urban areas.

  • Littercam AI System: Not a robot picker, but an AI-powered system that converts standard CCTV into cameras capable of identifying littering incidents in real time. This technology enables councils to monitor, deter, and fine offenders, potentially reducing the frequency of littering and associated clean-up costs.

Reducing Tower Hamlets' £6m Annual Litter Costs

  • Robotic Automation: Deploying AI-powered litter picking robots like Recycleye allows automation of sorting and collection, reducing reliance on manual workers and increasing efficiency. These systems consistently outperform humans in accuracy and speed, operating continuously and lowering wage and overtime costs.

  • AI Video Monitoring and Enforcement: Implementing systems like Littercam can help track and deter littering. Automated fines and improved enforcement can both reduce public littering and generate additional revenue, lowering the clean-up burden.

  • Community Involvement & Education: Partnering with social enterprises for awareness campaigns, and providing incentives for community litter picks, helps tackle litter at source and decreases overall waste.

  • Targeted Robotics: Specialised robots such as BeachBot can address specific litter problems in parks and open spaces, complementing broader waste robotics and freeing human resources for more complex tasks.

  • Integrated Sorting Solutions: Combining robotic pickers with AI sensors in recycling facilities (MRFs) ensures more waste is recycled, reducing landfill fees and contaminant removal costs.

Adopting these technologies would allow Tower Hamlets to modernise its litter removal operations, achieve better environmental outcomes, and reduce annual expenditure on manual litter picking.

Thank you for using BoilerBooker and giving us the opportunity to do what we do, without you there wouldn’t be a business. If you can think of any other ways we could continue to do our bit please drop us a message here.
